50MW/100MWh Bouldercombe Battery Project

The Bouldercombe Battery Project, located in Rockhampton in Central Queensland, is expected to be one of the first standalone large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Queensland at an initial size of 50/100MWh (2hr storage depth).

Genex has signed an Agreement with Powerlink to fast track the development of the Project, and the land will be secured under a 30-year leasing arrangement next to Powerlink’s 275kV/132kV Bouldercombe substation. The Project will connect into an available 132kV bay at the Bouldercombe substation, which is located in a key part of the Queensland electricity grid with good network strength and Marginal Loss Factor profiles.

Tesla has been selected as the battery integrator and supplier for BBP utilising the Tesla Megapack 2.0.

About the Project

The Project will operate on an arbitrage/FCAS revenue model with the ability to bid into all eight existing FCAS markets, and to participate in future markets for inertia and fast frequency response which are currently under development.

Genex expects to reach financial close for the BBP in Q2 FY2022 with the BESS being fully operational in Q3 FY2023.
